For those who don’t know me, Hey there, hows it going?  I’m Kevin Hanna (frogchildren) I directed the animated steam-punk feature film, “The Clockwork Girl” based on the graphic novel by the same name that I co-created with Sean O’Reilly.

It airs on television Jan 12th and It stars the great Jesse McCartney, Jeffrey Tambor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Brad Garrett, and Alexa Vega as the Clockwork Girl. details here:

According to IMDB, I’m “… the first American comic creator to direct the (film) adaption of his own graphic novel [28 May 2010]”, and you know the internet is never wrong.  Here’s the synopsis of the film:

“A nameless robot girl has recently been given the gift of life from her creator, while exploring the wonders of an ordinary world she meets an amazing mutant boy and they share a friendship that must overcome their warring families. “
And a  few preview images from the film:
Here’s a little featurette we did a long awhile back that should give you an idea of what we’re doing:

It’s been an uphill battle, we’re a smaller independent production trying to play with the big boys, and it’s been a challenge every step of the way, we endured bear attacks, Hell’s Angles and bad storms making our computers wash away.

This whole film has been a labor of love.  We did a ton of the pre-production before any funding ever came in.  We’ve been all pushing further to make the film better, going above and beyond. I’m going to use this space here to highlight the artists, art, actors and techniques that have gone into making this film, and break it up by the usual bloggeries of old stories, rants and reviews. I’ll even show how it ended up on an episode of Supernatural.  Sound like a plan?

To kick things off, here is a brief evolution of the the Corvax, the evil soldiers from “The Clockwork Girl”:

My original rough concept:

Fleshed out by Concept Lead Barnaby Ward:

Brought to life by Character Modeler Charlie Baker:

And finally how they appear in the final film:

And that’s it for today, I have an early day of shots to review, edits to approve, models to critique, and maybe if the day goes well, food.

An amazing team of incredible artists killed themselves to made this happen, so please share this where you can. Thank you everyone!

Any questions, or comments, hit me up.

Be seeing you around, – kevin

I still have this clothing line’s site favorited for when I can finally afford my post-Apocalyptic cyberpunk wardrobe.

Their clothes are expensive as fuck to be looking so damn raggedy.

These are my new work uniforms.

Mandatory.

Has anybody ever heard of this charming little tale called “Clockwork Girl”? Because I would like to talk about it.

I picked up this little gem at a bookstore a year ago and I really enjoyed it. It was originally a six issue comic series created by  Sean O’ Reilly and Kevin Hanna. I don’t want to give away too much of the books story but It’s your typical Romeo and Juliet story about rival families and forbidden love. There’s some very inspired art in it and it’s generally heartwarming, my little nephew really enjoyed it.

I was very pleased to hear that a motion picture adaption was going to be released for it. Unfortunately  this trailer here was released about 3 years ago and it’s the most information, to my knowledge, provided about the film. That’s a shame because This story, albeit done to death, does have a lot of heartwarming charm that carries it through and you can tell there was a very sincere effort put into it.

If you ever stumble upon this gem, I would encourage you to pick it up. It’s worth your time. It’s now available in a collection and you could probably find it at the graphics novel section in your local bookstore.

I do hope more people read this book. I think it deserves a bit more recondition.

thank you, you’re mighty kind.

Behold my greatest work in comics!

 No.

Not really at all, but this makes Kendra  and I laugh to think John might have been lagging behind Sherlock’s clever word play.  Also, a good excuse to play with animating in photoshop.

I know, I KNOW, you might be sick of hearing about it, but “The Clocwork Girl”, (the animated movie I directed, based on the graphic novel by the same name that I co-created) airs on television Jan 12th. details here:

My comic/animated movie is in an episode of Supernatural.

Season 4 : Episode 18  The Monster at the End of This Book

Dean and Sam investigate a comicbook store where the clerk calls them out as LARPers from “Supernatural” the series.  The poster over the clerks head is of my comic book, “The Clockwork Girl”.  Kinda fun.
